the SNES' resolution is kinda interesting. internally it's 256x224, an 8:7 aspect ratio, then it gets stretched to 4:3. that's why you might've noticed some weirdness with the squareness of pixels sometimes; often the devs would be looking at the "true" resolution while making art. some accounted for it correctly, some had mixes of both
Interesting. There are so many quirks when you start looking at things closer. Sadly most of it is way over my head when it comes to the inner workings of these consoles.
