This is a community in the spirit of "Am I The Asshole" where people can post their own bans from lemmy or reddit or whatever and get some feedback from others whether the ban was justified or not.
Sometimes one just wants to be able to challenge the arguments some mod made and this could be the place for that.
Posting Guidelines
All posts should follow this basic structure:
- Which mods/admins were being Power Tripping Bastards?
- What sanction did they impose (e.g. community ban, instance ban, removed comment)?
- Provide a screenshot of the relevant modlog entry (don’t de-obfuscate mod names).
- Provide a screenshot and explanation of the cause of the sanction (e.g. the post/comment that was removed, or got you banned).
- Explain why you think its unfair and how you would like the situation to be remedied.
Rules
- Post only about bans or other sanctions that you have received from a mod or admin.
- Don’t use private communications to prove your point. We can’t verify them and they can be faked easily.
- Don’t deobfuscate mod names from the modlog with admin powers.
- Don’t harass mods or brigade comms. Don’t word your posts in a way that would trigger such harassment and brigades.
- Do not downvote posts if you think they deserved it. Use the comment votes (see below) for that.
- You can post about power trippin’ in any social media, not just lemmy. Feel free to post about reddit or a forum etc.
- If you are the accused PTB, while you are welcome to respond, please do so within the relevant post.
- Keep the comments in YPTB posts about the moderation action itself, not about the general topic in which the moderation took place.
Expect to receive feedback about your posts, they might even be negative.
Make sure you follow this instance's code of conduct. In other words we won't allow bellyaching about being sanctioned for hate speech or bigotry.
YPTB matrix channel: For real-time discussions about bastards or to appeal mod actions in YPTB itself.
Some acronyms you might see.
- PTB - Power-Tripping Bastard: The commenter agrees with you this was a PTB mod.
- YDI - You Deserved It: The commenter thinks you deserved that mod action.
- YDM new - You Deserved More: The commenter thinks you got off too lightly.
- BPR - Bait-Provoked Reaction: That mod probably overreacted in charged situation, or due to being baited.
- CLM - Clueless Mod: The mod probably just doesn't understand how their software works.

Retrolemmy is actually considering installing pylova, until migrations gets implemented.
Wife is planning to jabberize pylova, or elisp her own jabber+thready instance software, as Movim already implements most of the modern XEPs.
But migrations c'est premier.
RetroLemmy is not considering that. Retrolemmy will remain lemmy, as the name suggests. However we do have a PieFed instance called Retrofed running piefed. I am aware of pylova, but I am not considering switching at this point.
Are you aware that piefed is silencing accounts and instances based on Rimu’s notions of “normalcy”?

Will https://retrofed.com/ place strong anti bigotry rule in the instance? “Civil” means different things to bigotted instances.
What rimu does on his instance has nothing to do with retrofed/lemmy. Same as what the lemmy developers do has nothing to do with us either. We will not tolerate bigotry, transphobia, homophobia or other uncivilities. We want these instances to be about nostalgia and community. We do not intend to be a political instance, but will not tolerate bashing of minorities of any kind.
Civil, in our mind, means act like a decent human being with at least a baseline of respect for other people - no matter the background.
The issue is that Rimu is implementing these biases in code, as in, anyone that installs piefed, cannot see dbzero, anarchist.nexus, etc.. from both demo instances, to importing posts. He is taking his code politically, and charging innocent installers with his biases. I do not want that affecting retrofed, and other naïve installers.
Then please have a link expanding this definition to both instances, so joiners do not confuse it with bigotted civilities. I’ve experienced apartheid civilities by FHF. They do not mind genocide if my skin has melanin. They don't seem to mind trans Zionists at the least.
All default blocks and defederations have been altered during initial setup.
I wrote the rules early on when I just started retrolemmy, and thought it wouldn't need clarification, since civility in my mind includes intolerance of bigotry of any kind. But if you feel this is important, we will alter this for more clarification.

I do feel it is more imperative than ever, as nations around the world are twisting what it means to be civil. Comrades of mine don't even use the word “civil” for “decency.” Where I live, it is “civil” to drag trans people off toilets and assult us. That is no “decency” I want to be part of. This is primarily why we make the distinction, as we do not want to be associated with bigotry.
I can't imagine how that must be. I'm sorry you have to go through that. I have added clarification on both sidebars. Let me know if this is clarification enough, or if we need to edit it further.
I would really like if you incorporated these statements as well:
It shows what your instance is about, and what you desire to uphold. If folks see a positive outlook for the instance, the rules should reflect the positive goals you are striving to maintain.

It's not my primary language, indeed. Even still, writing for public view is a different beast all together, and I don't think I would be well versed in that even in my mother tongue.

Me and DosDude are the only admins of RetroLemmy and RetroFed. DosDude is the primary admin.
The only piece of software I'm familiar with in that comment is Pylova 😅. Sorry, I'm not really in the know or a web dev myself. If you felt like ELI5 what it means to Jabberize Pylova etc I'm all ears. After unruffled's comment I'll be moving the community.
