saw a vid of an american woman in an english supermarket and she commented how green the bananas were which amused me you buy five or eight bananas to last the whole week right

Yes, only yellow. I don't think I've ever made full use of a bunch
Banana bread is the secret. Even extremely brown bananas make great bread!
Peel and chop the bananas into smallish chunks and then freeze them. And you can blend the frozen bananas with some cocoa powder for really delicious chocolate nice cream.
I've had bananas that seem to go directly from green to brown. Not often but it was pretty annoying.
