Islanders love a guga. This is a blow culturally, make no mistake. The DuoLingo gaidhlig course mentions guga every other lesson it feels like! But it is a win environmentally: bird flu has been decimating populations for years, they need at least time to recover and heard immunity to be built back up

Aye. Not great for now but letting numbers recover is the best way to ensure the tradition can continue in future. Allows the islanders to decide how to proceed themselves.
