Please familiarize yourself with them

2) All posts must end with a '?'This is sort of like Jeopardy. Please phrase all post titles in the form of a proper question ending with ?

4) NSFW is okay, within reasonJust remember to tag posts with either a content warning or a [NSFW] tag. Overtly sexual posts are not allowed, please direct them to either !asklemmyafterdark@lemmy.world or !asklemmynsfw@lemmynsfw.com. NSFW comments should be restricted to posts tagged [NSFW].

5) This is not a support community.
It is not a place for 'how do I?', type questions. If you have any questions regarding the site itself or would like to report a community, please direct them to Lemmy.world Support or email info@lemmy.world. For other questions check our partnered communities list, or use the search function.

6) No US Politics.
Please don't post about current US Politics. If you need to do this, try !politicaldiscussion@lemmy.world or !uspolitics@lemmy.world

7) No Hit-and-Run questions.
Please don't delete your post for no apparent reason. If you plan on deleting a question later, say so in the post, or if you feel that you have a good reason to remove it, message a mod beforehand. How do you manage to keep working on a project once the "honeymoon phase" wears off?

Have you found anything that works for you, when finishing a project takes longer than the initial motivation rush will take you?

Lots of great advice in this thread so let me offer a complementary approach: when you find yourself feeling reluctant to work on the project, sit with that feeling and ask yourself where the sensation is coming from (and it might not be obvious at first—a therapist would be able to help you untangle the feelings).

In my case I learned I have a fear of failure. Once all the “easy” parts are done, and I don’t know quite how to do the next step, I start feeling uncomfortable. Not continuing is safe, because I don’t have to find out whether I will be successful. Learning new things usually requires trying and failing, and failing is uncomfortable, and our body is doing its best to keep us feeling safe.

I’ve used most of the other suggestions in this thread and they do work to varying degrees. But my TLDR advice is that these strategies are often coping mechanisms for some underlying lizard brain emotion going on. If you can gain some self-awareness about that emotion then you will gain power over it, be able to soothe it, and thus be less reliant on an external strategy.

@charmed_electron Thank you so much, I think you managed to put something into words that was kind of floating in shame and avoidance. I appreciate this :ablobcatheartsqueeze: :ablobcatheart:
