It's not about whether or not it fits someone's personal experience. It's about not normalizing or even romanticizing harmful behaviours.

But with proper writing, it would make sense to have. To completely rid of it is stupid. Maybe "overly romanticizing the neglectful dad trope," I could agree with.

I think you are now talking about the definition of a trope. Look, as a plot line, what you wrote is doable. But tropes are by definition simplified. That is the problem.
