and they all look the fucking same; colour, letters, "feel". Even my fav "real" yters are resorting to them. I now hover over them to see if there is a real person in there or an AI like that Asian guy with prolly 50 chans I've blocked along with that old white dude with glasses and a beard, only blocked him on 3 chans so far. We need an alternative to yt that will not allow AI. I'd rather they took a frame from the video and badly pasted on their text than this same same shit.
Tom Scott actually talked about this in his recent Wired video.
YouTube itself auto-generates and suggests these AI thumbnails. That's why they all look the same. Creators now also have to choose three thumbnails and titles and the system swaps between them. Imagine having to make three distinct thumbnail images and titles for each video. It's no wonder this samey AI generator images are so prevalent on the platform now, it takes three times the amount of effort to avoid it now.
I mean I get it, after years of having to look for artists to make thumbsnails or hire people on fiverr instead of taking the time to learn to do it yourself, it is not hard but people are busy sure. I'm sure it's attractive to people to be able to type in a thing and get a semi professional good enough looking thing that looks basically how they want. I just don't have to like it or want to see it because as someone who learned all that stuff I find it pretty appalling design wise
@joeljoelle @lost_faith finding a real person to do your work is much better , than commanding a AI to do it
I do pay people to do stuff like that, cause I can't and refuse to use that AI
@lost_faith I hope that everyone in the world refuses to use Ai , btw what stuff do you make ?
I have a tiny channel, 669 subs, where I play VR games live, on linux, using proton. I'm just in it for fun so I just take a ss and post it as a thumbnail, then run a slide show of ss's and my logo on OBS while I get ready. My theme song is AI but it was put together by a viewer/mod so I use that til I find someone willing to make me a song. The art was easier to find than music
@lost_faith yeahh I'm sure , you can find many music writer who'll be willing to make it for you ! but ig you should get custom artistic thumbnails for your video , what do you think ?
Def not willing to pay for thumbnails when I make no money from my chan. I gave up looking for a musician when I was ghosted by 2 of them before we even talked money. I paid a nice lady for my logo, and then paid her to make a Like and Sub video that plays a couple times during the stream.
If you, or anyone else reading, know any Canadian musicians looking for commissions I'd love to get connected
@lost_faith uhmm I guess I have someone in mind that just writes lyrics , do you have an budget in your mind ?
I have the lyrics, just need human made music for them. The budget is a few hundred, I can afford to pay for quality as it has been a while since I did the logo and video
I totally agree 100% I was just saying I can understand the attraction if you were a non techie/artist video maker, I find them really offputting, but I never watched a lot of youtube videos anyway. I guess people just have to vote with their clicks if they can
