I can see why it's creepy: I mean, it's a worn forest path leading down a dark trail, marked by a sign that a very real somebody just like ourselves seemingly just disappeared somewhere in there and never came back.
That's crazy creepy! (And incredibly sad...)
That definitely gives me such " would I seriously regret going any farther? " Vibes...
You know, like that grim reaper sign by the entrance to underwater caves that's basically like "NOTHING BUT A TERRIBLE DEATH AWAITS YOU HERE." Yikes!
I'd probably head back to the car and find somewhere else a bit more trod to hike. Yeah, I'm a city slicker...lol
