Boycott US

Overview:

The community dedicated to boycotting the US until they stop fascism, restore full democracy and start following international law.

Americans have a moral obligation to resist Donald Trump and project 2025 at every turn.

America is a flawed democracy currently being ruled by oligarchs. Stop the backslide! Dont let America become the next Hungary.

America needs to challenge the court rulings of citizens united v. fec and shelby county v. holder, protect the media, implement independent district drawing, and the single transferable vote so they don't end up having people stay home in life-changing elections because they cannot vote for their favourite candidate.

warning: embarrassment alert!

It should be obvious that The Beaverton is satire, but a lot of people seem to miss the obvious, so here's the warning.

We need our own "Nationalized" version of the service, or maybe we can grass roots croudfund it. Frankly any basic middle man services should be in the hands of the gov. This shit isn't rocket sciance and those service funds should go to them and not some POS stakeholder

Maybe we can name this nationalized service something like "Interac"

[–] Smaile@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

Do they do credit and similar services? Honestly I straight up forgot it was a Canada only thing

[–] nomecks@lemmy.wtf 5 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Well you could hook it up to your bank line of credit and get all of the benefits of a credit card without the high interest rate and fees

[–] Smaile@lemmy.ca 2 points 2 weeks ago

Hmmmm, that's a neat idea

[–] Reannlegge@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 weeks ago

A few institutions do but it is interact mastercard hybrid.

[–] Canajan@piefed.ca 5 points 2 weeks ago

Yes this, Interac works very well and should be expanded to include credit, or as described by another person, link it to a line of credit.

Screw the Americans, we need to continue the push to decouple our economies.

There is no use waiting till the Orange Turd is gone, the elite working behind him is the real ruin of the U.S.

Nope. We can't afford the dev and maintenance of our own setup, clown-funding or no. Go with whatever Europe is using, as it's like 50 countries already.

Dev costs?? Bro the groundwork is already known this shit won't cost billions (assuming fuckery doesn't happen) , it provides us jobs and funds our gov, Fuck giving other people this money, it should pay back into the country. I like the EU but I see no reason we can't just copy existing systems and pay Back into ourselves.

This is what Australia needs to do as well, with our eftpos system.

The only difference between it and the American two structurally is that it hasn’t been verified or implemented for credit payments, only debit.

[–] Reannlegge@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 weeks ago

I think we could even join the EU’s new system that replaces Mastercard/Visa
