I personally don't think he's dead. I think it's far more likely that he only technically alive on life support.
He'll never die. His cask may wither away, but he'll find a new host.
That's a fate worse than death. Imagine turning a literal zombie moose and you're corpse is being piloted for political gain of your subordinate parasites.
