Any experience with renting carpet cleaner machine? (feddit.nl)

Thinking about to cleaning the carpet this summer but unsure renting a carpet cleaning machine is the way to go or I should just get a machine. Anyone has tried renting one and would you recommend the store your rented it from?

I rented from Home Depot. Later I discovered many other places have these for renting, include a Safeway very close to where we live. We used it for a few hours with a cleaner liquid the clerk recommended to us and it was fine.
