Not to mention the team from Ecuador spent 9 hours in the air for a trip that was supposed to take 4 hours and the airline never gave a reason for the extra 5 hours of flight time, and then when they finally get to their hotel, which had been doxxed, they were greeted by "fans" blaring music outside their rooms all night long. Great hosts.
Apparently this is a common tactic. Ecuador did it to Mexico in 1993.
"Mexico has not forgotten the 1993 Copa América in Ecuador. On the eve of the semi-final in Quito, Ecuadorian fans surrounded the Mexican team’s hotel, creating an atmosphere of intense hostility with constant noise throughout the night. Man, 33 years is a long time to wait for revenge. How many of Ecuador's players were even alive then?
Really?? This should be investigated and people arrested..
According to my dad, the cops were also there keeping them awake and running the sirens all night. As a Mexican person, this does not surprise me at all. Also just acab.
Fifa should do something about it tbh though, that's ridiculous.

I found a source about the delayed flight too, but it was paywalled and not on the Internet Archive. From what other sources I saw the delay was between 3 and 5 hours.
