Welcome to the discussion of US Politics!

Rules:

  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
  3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

Full Report: From Vanity to Insanity: How the White House Cheated the American People Out of Their 250th Birthday.

Today, House Natural Resources Committee released a new 55-page report following months of investigative work by Committee Democrats exposing how Donald Trump hijacked what was supposed to be a unifying, non-political celebration of our country's 250th birthday and made it all about him – his vanity projects, his political and religious agenda, his business ventures, and his cronies who gorged on public funds under cover of a shadow corporation shielded from public scrutiny.

Hey look, he's doing that thing you all already knew he was doing!

[–] velma@sh.itjust.works 39 points 12 hours ago (2 children)

This sternly worded letter will certainly do him in this time.

Reply below with a 'tut-tut' to do your part for justice. Do it for America!

Maybe we should all bring in our little "No" signs to hold up in silent protest. Oh and coordinate our outfits to display our displeasure.

[–] BinGoose@lemmy.zip 6 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

Can my "We should be at brunch" sign come too?

[–] velma@sh.itjust.works 5 points 11 hours ago

It'll fit right in! Make sure to wear your "I dissent" pins, too!

[–] myster0n@feddit.nl 7 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

Don't be so harsh. I believe he has learned his lesson.

[–] panda_abyss@lemmy.ca 5 points 12 hours ago

I’ve submitted orders for Trump coin at 15% above market price to apologize for OP.

I'm hoping that the recent elections of Democratic Socialists help push the centrist Dems to get off their ass, stop relying solely on donor money, and actually govern for their constituents.

But we'll see.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 2 points 5 hours ago

Some, like Schiff and Raskin, embraced the new Democrat attitude during the Biden term, but maybe this new wave of Socialists will inspire the rest.

And those that don't get on board with the Progressives, like those Capitalist DINOs who were yapping earlier this week, will stand out, and we'll know who to ruthlessly primary in their re-elections.

[–] lIlIlIlIlIlIl@lemmy.world -5 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

Should they stop condemning the wrongdoings of the bad guys? Why are you out here clowning on people for doing what they’re supposed to be doing?

[–] velma@sh.itjust.works 9 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

Because they're clowns. Beholden to their pocketbooks more than the American people.

And we are soundly rejecting them by electing so many Democratic Socialists. There will be more to come, too.

[–] lIlIlIlIlIlIl@lemmy.world -2 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

So your logic is - that because these people don’t have proper values, that them attacking The Bad Guys deserves your derision?

Wild, but ok whatever

[–] velma@sh.itjust.works 5 points 12 hours ago* (last edited 12 hours ago) (1 children)

Oh it's an "attack" to post a strongly worded letter now?

On second thought, that line was a little catty. Edited it out.

[–] lIlIlIlIlIlIl@lemmy.world 0 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

All you can do is deflect due to my word choice

Very telling

[–] velma@sh.itjust.works 3 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

I mean, I already explained that I think we should vote out these people that don't have proper values and replace them with representatives that actually work for the people, but you didn't like my answer.

[–] lIlIlIlIlIlIl@lemmy.world 1 points 12 hours ago (2 children)

You attacked my word choice, then edited it out when you knew you realized you behaved in an extremely ugly way.

Hope you can find ways to still be proud of yourself.

[–] bitjunkie@lemmy.world 5 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

I'm getting a lot of mileage out of this GIF lately…

[–] velma@sh.itjust.works 1 points 12 hours ago

Cry harder, my goodness. It was a little catty, but I did edit it out almost immediately. It was not extremely ugly hahaha

[–] Malyca@lemmy.zip 3 points 11 hours ago

The red hats claim you know he's honest because he already has money therefore he isn't in it to enrich himself. I mean, he donated his salary guys! IDK how you fight that kind of stupid.
