There is no subsidy here, people need to stop spreading these lies.
What this “subsidy” actually is, is a refund of the “road tax” that is added to the price of diesel to cover the upkeep etc of roads that the vehicle using the diesel drives on. Why do they get this rebate? Because they don’t use the roads.
What it actually is, is lost revenue from extremely profitable ventures. The argument that the Excise is only for road uses is a bit tired. When Malcolm Fraser introduced it, it was to prevent Australia becoming reliant on cheap Bass Straight oil. That’s no longer a thing.
