It's a literal bonfire of the vanities. The bigotry, the smugness, and the violence are all part of a self-mythologizing narrative used to build support for increasingly awful people. Guys like Ben-Gvir are in power precisely because they're the biggest assholes the country has to offer. They draw in other assholes like a magnet and build a movement based on that collective awfulness, even as their country self-destructs and takes out every neighbor in a 500 mile radius.
