Unless you have to get someone up the stairs or over some rubble, isn't grabbing their arms and dragging them the best way to do this?
When I trained to be a firefighter, we used the Rautek maneuvre. You fold the victim's arm in front of their chest, reach below their armpits for said arm and lift them.
