One has to wonder if he expected Iran to fight back, if he was naïve enough to assume they’d simply roll over.
They absolutely were stupid enough to think that there would be one wave, and that would be it. They think like children, and only consider what's right in front of them. They never think about Steps 2, 3, etc.
Trump confirmed it a week or two later, when he actually told the media that they were shocked that they actually fired back, NOBODY could have predicted that. Hey loser, EVERYBODY predicted it, and they've been predicting it for years.

From the land of the exceptional and the home of the clueless? Yeah, probably. He thinks he's the hero in an action movie, instead of an oafish villain in a tragic comedy.
He absolutely thought it would be like Venezuela and purged anyone who (would have) told him this would be a terrible idea.
Iran is literally in the business of making battle tested drones for Russia. What could go wrong?
