Back in the '90s, Bill Clinton won his election on the phrase "It's the economy, stupid!"
Reality is, it's not just the economy, it's the embodied life. People looking around and seeing homeless encampments where those people used to have a place to live. People feeling worried about a major bill coming down the pipe. People stressed about their kids future, or even if they'll ever be able to have a relationship, a place to live of their own, or kids.
At some point, people need to be human beings before they're ideologues. That's just malow's hierarchy of needs.
And maybe voting differently than they have won't help, but I'm sure they're thinking that things aren't working the way they are right now.
You're right. Safety and an orderly society matter too.
Although I will say that specifically, if you're got homelessness rising, that's an economic issue too.
I think more people should vote like they're human beings, not like they're ideologues. Until things get dire, most folks tend to keep voting the same way over and over again, even if they don't like what their leaders do. The UK is the most extreme example of this in the Western world that I can think of.
