Fediverse vs Disinformation

2143 readers
125 users here now

Pointing out, debunking, and spreading awareness about state- and company-sponsored astroturfing on Lemmy and elsewhere. This includes social media manipulation, propaganda, and disinformation campaigns, among others.

Propaganda and disinformation are a big problem on the internet, and the Fediverse is no exception.

What's the difference between misinformation and disinformation? The inadvertent spread of false information is misinformation. Disinformation is the intentional spread of falsehoods.

By equipping yourself with knowledge of current disinformation campaigns by state actors, corporations and their cheerleaders, you will be better able to identify, report and (hopefully) remove content matching known disinformation campaigns.

Also to be clear, he did not get his visa revoked. He got denied visa-less entry and now has to actually apply for a visa. When he says his visa got revoked, he is lying.

Edit: Literally in his own video (1:17)

Cite your proof or stop making off the cuff claims in attempt to distract from the point here.

The email he read on stream (source):

Dear Hasan Doğan Piker,

your UK ETA has been cancelled. This means you cannot travel to the UK without a VISA. This is because your presence >in the UK is not considered to be conducive to the public good. You cannot appeal this decision.

Apply for a visa:
If you still want to travel to the UK, you need to apply for a visa, so we can consider your circumstances in more detail. Having your ETA cancelled does not mean you will be refused a visa.

ETA and visa seem to generally amount to the same thing, so given that people are probably more familiar with the term "visa" anyway, it doesn't really sound like a lie to say that his visa got revoked.

So the zionist moron above isn't wrong, but blowing things out of proportion again, as expected.

No? Getting your visa revoked is way more serious. Getting your ETA revoked just means they want to take a closer look.

[–] Spectrism@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 7 hours ago

For all intents and purposes, none is more serious than the other, there's no practical difference. And if they wanted to take a closer look, they could have done that before approving the ETA. Doing this right now is a politically motivated action, not because of actual public safety concerns or whatever. It also doesn't help that it was revoked days before the scheduled visit, as a visa application won't be approved in time.
