Rules (2024-08-30)
- This is an English-language community. Comments should be in English. Posts can link to non-English news sources when providing a full-text translation in the post description. Automated translations are fine, as long as they don't overly distort the content.
- No links to misinformation or commercial advertising. When you post outdated/historic articles, add the year of publication to the post title. Infographics must include a source and a year of creation; if possible, also provide a link to the source.
- Be kind to each other, and argue in good faith. Don't post direct insults nor disrespectful and condescending comments. Don't troll nor incite hatred. Don't look for novel argumentation strategies at Wikipedia's List of fallacies.
- No bigotry, sexism, racism, antisemitism, islamophobia, dehumanization of minorities, or glorification of National Socialism. We follow German law; don't question the statehood of Israel.
- Be the signal, not the noise: Strive to post insightful comments. Add "/s" when you're being sarcastic (and don't use it to break rule no. 3).
- If you link to paywalled information, please provide also a link to a freely available archived version. Alternatively, try to find a different source.
- Light-hearted content, memes, and posts about your European everyday belong in other communities.
- Don't evade bans. If we notice ban evasion, that will result in a permanent ban for all the accounts we can associate with you.
- No posts linking to speculative reporting about ongoing events with unclear backgrounds. Please wait at least 12 hours. (E.g., do not post breathless reporting on an ongoing terror attack.)
- Always provide context with posts: Don't post uncontextualized images or videos, and don't start discussions without giving some context first.

If need be, there are also bans: 3 days for lighter offenses, 7 or 14 days for bigger offenses, and permanent bans for people who don't show any willingness to participate productively. If we think the ban reason is obvious, we may not specifically write to you.

I mainly pay with card to be sure the seller pay his taxes. Italy loses a significant percentage of pil due to tax evasions. I drink tears of tax evaders.
So you believe taxes are justified ?
You work for the government ?

You must not have an idea on how bad Italy tax evasion is. If I find the article I'll edit the comment but it showed that something like 70% don't pay taxes.
Probably not that bad but i read that 1/10 of the pil is gone due to tax evasion. The problem are PMI (small and medium businesses) that evade every occasion they have (plumbers, hairdressers, clothes washing etc.) and so the people that can't phisically evade (aka people with fixed salaries, employees) watch their taxes skyrocket and their services going down.
Plumbers, hairdressers, launderers are not business but extremely hard working people, who don't deserve to get robbed by the legislations framed by the representatives of the corporates !!
Yeah everybody work hard, doesnt give you the right to literally rob the collectivity. Salarymen pay for a much larger portion of goverment budget cause they have the taxes paid for them without exeption. That seems fair to you? That people who are btw much more hit by inflation also have to pay higher taxes cause others egoistically evade? And for what? Because they dont evade to survive, i assure you. They need for a bigger suv. Sickening people
That's the system of taxation. Your taxes get deducted even before you get the money in hand. So yes, on one hand your taxes are getting deducted and on the other, you're paying through your nose during inflation. As l said, how many people know what are the actual sources of revenue for the government ??
Money has always been an illusion, but with digital system, you don't even see what you're working for, other than the blink of numbers on your mobile phone screen.
Why should you pay taxes anyways ? Who does it benefit ?
Me cause i have free healthcare, university, benefit according to my level of income and so on. Its not even a worth debate if your point is "taxes are useless"
I'll give you one example how the government spends the taxpayer's money. In my country, the central government has got a scheme for improving the roads. All of a sudden, our municipal corporation dug up our nice roads, made them unnecessarily higher and made the drains prone to accidents. They harassed the people for months for doing this work.
And the worst thing is that the municipal corporation did it selectively just to our lane as our councillor is from the opposition party.
Just because it's Europe, does it mean that the governments are really reliable when it comes to spending the taxpayer's money ??
So the government does something bad, not even directly cause as you said the problem is at municipal level, and suddenly taxes are bad and goverment isnt capable of doing anything good or spend money rightly? Seems a generalisation.
The municipality is the local self government. At least, this portion of the government we can easily track because we know the people forming the municipalities directly. What l showed was how the various government institutions spend the taxpayer's ๐ฐ.
Consider this : is EU at war with Russia ?? Ukraine is not a part of the EU.
I don't know which country you are from, but there was a prime minister called Berlusconi in Italy. He was a tycoon, much like Trump. If you look at it deeply, all the people in the governments are basically plutocrats. They're there to serve the interests of the big corporates. In India too, Modi takes orders from outsiders like Trump, from Israel, from Bill Gates and from tycoons like the Adanis and the Ambanis.
Taxes are indeed useless, as inflation is also a form of taxation. Look up on this !!
Have you ever considered looking into the incomes and the expenditures of the government ??
You still pay the tax even you if don't file for tax returns.
