Depends.

Not competent at:

  • running a successful economy
  • building a stable future
  • balancing the budget
  • etc

Competent at

  • spending other people’s money
  • ruining a state
  • building rockets
  • industrial scale murder
  • convincing idiots they’re competent on stuff they’re most incompetent
  • etc

Counterpoint: They were not that good at building rockets because they killed more people during production than were killed by the rockets.

They were gonna kill those people anyway. You can't measure the success of a project if you don't understand the goals.

Yeah but von Braun didn’t have slave labor building Apollo

That wasn’t the point. And don’t forget that the USSR also had some help getting Laika into space.

I also meant to convey the off-topic sub context that a lot of Nazi walked away Hans Landa Style but without scar. A lot of Nazis weren’t punished, Nixon was pardoned, etc. We should stop allowing clemency in these cases.

Agreed. Humans are and always have been terrible.
