Rules:

  1. The mods are fallible; if you've been banned or had a post/comment removed, please appeal.
  2. Off-topic posts will be removed. If you don't know what "Leopards ate my Face" is, try reading this post.
  3. If the reason your post meets Rule 1 isn't in the source, you must add a source in the post body (not the comments) to explain this. If the reason is in the source but is tedious to find (e.g. in a lengthy video), you must add an explanation for where it is.
  4. Posts should use high-quality sources (for a rough idea, check out this list), and posts should retain the title (if one exists) from works like news articles, videos, etc. You may (but need not) edit your post if the source changes the title. Other types of posts should have a title which accurately, relatively neutrally describes their contents.
  5. For accessibility reasons, an image of text must either have alt text or a transcription in the post body.
  6. Reposts within 1 year or the Top 100 of all time are subject to removal. Within moderator discretion, this doesn't just include reposts of the exact same media but also includes e.g. a secondary source telling basically the exact same story as another that was already posted.
  7. This is not exclusively a US politics community. You're encouraged to post stories about anyone from any place in the world at any point in history as long as you meet the other rules.

They already are. And they were.

They were lied to.

That's why Donald is polling lower than Jimmy Carter.

They were lied to - and then chose to ignore their fellow citizens telling them that for years. They chose to ignore those signs for years. We didn't give Germany a pass for Hitler because enough folks after the war said they finally saw the light; instead, we proceeded with a plan of denazification.

There are a lot of factors at play, not the least of which being critical thinking and education. I don't think it's accurate to say there is now broad scale agreement on these issues because a bunch of Trumpers are just now, 2 terms in, realizing that they were duped.

Factually incorrect. What you told them was to vote for Democrats who they'd just watched, for four years, ignoring their increasing impoverishment and running immigration policy that was not feasible long-term. And you were always rude, condescending assholes about it.

The vast majority of these people voted for two things: Affordability and immigration enforcement. That's it. They, as evidenced by their own political activity and Donald's poll numbers, do not support a Gestapo-style crackdown of Democratic cities nor economic policy that super-charges the inflation and price gouging they endured under Joe Biden. Further, many of these former Trump voters were on the picket lines in Minneapolis too.

And it's a good thing that they're speaking out against Donald now. So resist the urge to be a finger-wagging douche about it.

No need for personal attacks, but it does mean I generally won't be responding to your "points".

Save for one observation: it's strange to be upset at and fixate on some generalized boogeymen being "condescending" given the scope of what has happened due to MAGA gaining power. One is some people potentially being rude, while the other is a shared suffering (in some cases losses of careers, losses of savings, even some deaths) because of the poor decisionmaking of a voting bloc.

Point that anger in the right direction. Yes, I'm glad some of those voters are turning around. Still waiting on a tangible result.

They weren't lied to, they were told unequivocally that this would happen, Trump himself said he would do all this. This is what they genuinely wanted, they just didn't want the consequences of economic devastation even though everybody kept telling them this is exactly what would happen. Nobody gets to claim they were lied to and if they genuinely believed it all they're too ignorant to participate in society. Fuck every last one of em, and fuck all the non voters too, this is every bit as much their fault as well. Now watch all the tankys and liberals come in telling me how everything is actually the democrats fault.
