Rules:

  1. The mods are fallible; if you've been banned or had a post/comment removed, please appeal.
  2. Off-topic posts will be removed. If you don't know what "Leopards ate my Face" is, try reading this post.
  3. If the reason your post meets Rule 1 isn't in the source, you must add a source in the post body (not the comments) to explain this. If the reason is in the source but is tedious to find (e.g. in a lengthy video), you must add an explanation for where it is.
  4. Posts should use high-quality sources (for a rough idea, check out this list), and posts should retain the title (if one exists) from works like news articles, videos, etc. You may (but need not) edit your post if the source changes the title. Other types of posts should have a title which accurately, relatively neutrally describes their contents.
  5. For accessibility reasons, an image of text must either have alt text or a transcription in the post body.
  6. Reposts within 1 year or the Top 100 of all time are subject to removal. Within moderator discretion, this doesn't just include reposts of the exact same media but also includes e.g. a secondary source telling basically the exact same story as another that was already posted.
  7. This is not exclusively a US politics community. You're encouraged to post stories about anyone from any place in the world at any point in history as long as you meet the other rules.

Oh. Would have been nice to come to that conclusion ten fucking years ago!

“Three time trump voter”

Shoulda just stopped right there.

Three. Times.

History was always there, ready to be picked up and used as a mirror. Trump has always been who he was. Cruelty, nationalism, and prejudice haven’t changed definitions. There were no secrets.

These douchenozzles are all the same. They were perfectly happy to let trump F everything up as long as it was everyone else getting F’d. As soon as it inconveniences them, they suddenly find some kind of righteous morality.

I mean to be fair he gave a good explanation i thought, slowly realizing over time that he was wrong. Yeah is he a dumbass for voting for him three times, of course. But apparently half our country is dumbasses and understanding how their minds work is key to surviving in this dumbass country.

"Do hateful bullshit to the people I don't like and I'll vote for you."

There, that's how their brains work. It's not some complicated mystery.

[–] Bluescluestoothpaste@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 day ago (2 children)

So why is this guy changing his mind now?

[–] lightnsfw@reddthat.com 8 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (3 children)

Because something Trump did affected him personally. He hasn't changed his beliefs or become a better person. He's just a selfish asshole who got fucked over.

Yes. That's partially because many Americans are racist (or at least willing to throw someone else under the bus) and weak-minded, and partially because our education has been intentionally dismantled by the parasite class.

Now, are you more interested in lauding your own moral superiority over them (thereby making them feel unwelcome in spaces and communities able to enact actual positive change) or are you more interested in building working class consciousness?

You have to pick one.

If you're a marginalized / vulnerable person, by all means stay away from these people because yes, they are largely indoctrinated garbage and will probably make you feel unsafe. And you can disregard everything I'm saying in this comment because it's not my position to tell you how to respond to that danger.

But if you're a white liberal (not exactly a longshot guess here on Lemmy), then that is your responsibility. You aren't going to dismantle whiteness by finger-wagging and offering "I told you so" on the internet, you'll dismantle it by showing them another, better way.

It's either that or you round them up and kill them, and I don't think that would be a particularly beneficial approach (except for those convicted Nuremberg style). Otherwise, these people aren't going away and will continue to effect the trajectory of our country. You can try to help heal them, or you can deal with the consequences of them continuing to exist as a moral, spiritual, and emotional black hole.

They're only turning against Trump now because he is the worst thing a GQPedo can be- unelectable. They only care about power. Bush was 100% their guy until the 2008 election then he was persona non grata to the point he wasn't even invited to events. DO NOT believe this "I see the truth now" BS, because the next obvious Hitler that comes along they'll be voting for three times again.

[–] HarneyToker@lemmy.world 24 points 1 day ago (2 children)

For every 1 person turning a new leaf, there are 99 ex-republicans that will be “done with politics” while constantly talking shit about liberals and never taking accountability for their own actions.

We live in a democracy. When you vote for someone that does horrible things, that’s like hiring someone to do horrible things for you. They are “just following orders” from you, the voter.

It would help if Republicans could distinguish between the actual "radical left" and the center-right (and moving further right) DNC. If they knew actual leftist policies, many would support them, as has been shown in a bunch of those "tricking Trump voters" Youtube videos. Unfortunately they've been conditioned to fear words like "socialism" and "communism" so you have to wrap the concepts in cheese, metaphorically, while feeding it to them.

We live in a democracy.

We live in a plutocracy. Otherwise the Biden Admin would've ended all aid to Pissrael and the Trump Admin wouldn't have gone to war with Iran. Otherwise the data center using 2x the energy of the entire state of Utah wouldn't have been approved. Otherwise cannabis would be federally legal.

We only have the illusion of democracy. Democracy theater.

"but we don’t learn from history"

Nah bitch, YOU don't learn. Don't try to lump me in with your inability to feel compassion or hold a coherent thought.

[–] Technotica@lemmy.world 24 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Trump is like Hitler for even stupider people.

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 7 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

There were no boomers in the 1930s, life expectancy was 62. We now have demented voting for demented.

[–] Etterra@discuss.online 24 points 1 day ago (2 children)

73 year old Hawaii resident Richard Sniffer regrets voting repeatedly for Trump now that his gas prices are way higher.

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 18 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Pedophilia? Ok

Corruption? Ok

Mass killings in wars ? Ok

Cutting social services? Ok

Record debt? Ok

$4.90 a tank of gas? Whoa...HANG ON THERE...

Most conservatives are literally incapable of giving a fuck about bad things happening unless they directly impact themselves.

[–] T00l_shed@lemmy.world 21 points 1 day ago

"Now that it affects me I'm mad at him". Not the myriad other reasons no sane person wouldn't vote for mango Mussolini

[–] SnarkoPolo@lemmy.world 17 points 1 day ago (1 children)

And he's voting Republican again. Gotta make those college libs cry.

[–] Bluescluestoothpaste@sh.itjust.works 7 points 1 day ago (5 children)

Get fucked, Johnny come lately. That's all been obvious since 2015. You weren't brainwashed, you're just a Nazi who got conned.

[–] BeardededSquidward@lemmy.blahaj.zone 16 points 1 day ago (1 children)

We need to make sure they remember it. A mark of the beast if you will.
