If you have to self-police like that, your followers don't believe in the morals you preach.

[–] thallamabond@lemmy.world 172 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Reminds me of being asked how I keep from murdering and raping people, since I do not believe in an eternal damnation.

[–] NOT_RICK@lemmy.world 91 points 2 days ago

What do you mean being a good person is its own reward?!?

[–] reksas@sopuli.xyz 60 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

scary people, if religion is only thing that keeps them from doing that, which that question implies.

[–] Steve@startrek.website 26 points 2 days ago (1 children)

How do you hold back the nonstop compulsion to commit horrible crimes which we all feel constantly??

[–] reksas@sopuli.xyz 12 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I do only the crimes that my dear friend Mr fibbles the sockpuppet has approved.

[–] uenticx@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

Ah, ol' Mr. Crusty.

[–] redlemace@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

I remember one of the most religious guys in town bringing in his two week old vcr on a monday. Angrily shouting he wanted to watch a video yesterday after church when the tape got stuck after one minute.

We fixed the vcr and where curiouse....... As suspected : porn!

I think this network will primarily be used by parents to keep their kids from being tempted into sin or discovering that queer people exist

[–] webkitten@piefed.social 44 points 2 days ago (2 children)

They're gonna be shocked to find out that Jesus shared his body with 12 other men.

[–] SarahValentine@lemmy.blahaj.zone 12 points 2 days ago (1 children)

One of which spent an awful lot of time literally cuddling Jesus.

[–] lemmyng@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago

Kissing Jesus on the cheek is totally not gay my dudes! In face, if you wanna kill people who are like Jesus, just kiss em on the cheek! That'll show the police officers that you're an American born cisgender hetero white dude who is totally not gay and will send Trump haters to die./s

[–] P1nkman@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

That one kid during communion "is this part of Jesus' penis?".

[–] uenticx@lemmy.world 15 points 2 days ago (1 children)

or discovering that queer people exist

So they'll never know that people of the same sex fuck each other and continue to perpetuate hate towards them. Now that is sin.

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago

Except for some who just cheat with people of their own gender and live in extreme guilt wondering why they keep doing it.

[–] Tim_Bisley@piefed.social 15 points 2 days ago (2 children)

If you have to self police like that, you might have a gay porn problem.

[–] uenticx@lemmy.world 10 points 2 days ago

If history is any indicator .... lol

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

and transgender porn too, they more than likely being so repressed they are in the deviant kinks. american dads stan was so repressed sexually conservative he went all out on the kinks when he was encouraged to "expand his horizons.

[–] socsa@piefed.social 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Which is precisely why this will fail. Christians don't actually believe anything they preach. They just want to be seen as pious, and a phone carrier doesn't give them a visible virtue signal.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 3 points 2 days ago

they drink thier own koolaid, they do believe what they preach, but they are taught to believe that thier wayis the right way. much like how the"goualds in sg1 believe thier own BS, besides BAAL.

[–] LadyButterfly@reddthat.com 9 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Bet you anything a lot of people using it will be parents forcing their kids to

[–] lemmyng@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

Nah, if I have kids (once the economy allows me to do so without being on the verge of bankruptcy), I'm giving them a Karri Messenger 1 to start out with, then the Messenger 2: https://karri.io/collections/all

Then when they're older: Light Phone: https://www.thelightphone.com/

If they absolutely need a phone like the other kids, or when they're 16-18, they're getting a phone with GrapheneOS on it.

Why take personal accountability for one's morals when you can offload it to a paid service?
