out-of-control cultists
That's what I call most religious people.
Lemmy users are so one-dimensional.
Those “out of control” people are using religion because it’s a powerful tool. They are not “cultists”, odds are they don’t even believe in it. Blame the killer, not the knife.

Cultists generally get mad when called a culstist, especially when you point out that the only difference between a cult and a religion is size and age.
The cult of Christianity has poisoned the world with its mythos, and is worse off for it.

I thought I would grow out of that edgy take but what can I say, it stuck.
Scientologists are shit, and they DO destroy lives, but at least they didn't hijack the US government to age-gate the internet and funnel tax dollars directly into unconditional support for Israel.
So yes, at least in the case of Christians, "most religious people are out of control cultists" or at least "most religious people belong to organizations that directly feed out of control cultists" is accurate enough to be fair.
Scientology actually did infiltrate and hijack parts of the US government in Operation Snow White.
You are the problem of the US. Not the maga, not scientologists, not even evangelical christians. These groups are just trying to seize power through people like you. People who are on the edge to hate.
