LW already temporarily defederated anarchist.nexus once, and the evidence suggests Mr Kaplan is now pushing for full defederation of all the FAF instances. Mateys, we can’t let a mega‑instance captain bully the rest of the fleet just because their ship’s bigger. If Lemmy World tries to throw the FAF overboard, we’re calling for a show of solidarity: a fediverse blockade of Lemmy World in response, until the landlubbers see reason (i.e., there is an acceptable change in their leadership and/or this policy).
This is about mutual aid, not mutiny - standing together so no single admin gets to rule the seas unchallenged. A united armada of smaller instances can absolutely blunt Lemmy World’s outsized influence (and, let’s be honest, their ego).
☠️ A word to the captains: before hoisting colours or locking in a course, we ask ye to let your crew have their say. Run a poll, open the deck for discussion, and listen to the voices aboard your vessel. These seas belong to all of us, and decisions that shape our fediverse should be made together, not from the captain’s quarters alone.

As someone who is brand new to the whole Fediverse and Lemmy and all of that, I am rapidly trying to piece together what's happened/happening here. If a kind soul would help me with some context that would be phenomenal. I know .world is like, THE biggest instance that hosts very large communities, but I am not sure what exactly is happening with the instance as a whole, or what we are wanting to happen to it.
.world has threatened to defed from db0 and their associated piefed instance, anarchist.nexus, due to a spat between a (now former) admin of AN and an admin of world.
The admin of world took the AN admin's "kill all zionists" statement personally, and defeded AN without making any attempts to communicate with other admins of db0 or AN, and did not announce this defed until world's userbase caught on to it.
Once db0 and AN admins caught on, the AN admin involved with this stepped down. The butthurt world admin refederated with AN under duress, but is still vaguely threatening to defed again.
Defederation means cutting communication between the instances. Basically nothing from world would be visible to db0 and AN.
We (db0 and anarchist.nexus) aren't looking to defed from world, but this post is trying to get other instances to band together to all defed from world if and only if they follow through with defeding us again. Trying to get enough of the smaller lemmy instances aligned so that we can't all just be pushed around by world.

It's just a sort of flair for your "rank" in terms of voting power and interests. That image marks you as a "landlubber": you're a relatively new account on the instance, you didn't call out anything explicitly piracy or anarchy related when you signed up, you haven't donated to support the instance, you aren't part of the admin staff, and you aren't one of the seven or so "vouched for" users. It's also used to denote users from other instances.
Lemmy doesn't have built in user flair like reddit does, so the bot replies with the image icon instead.
