Re-route power to the shields, emit a tachyon pulse through the deflector, and post all the nonsense you want. Within reason of course.

~ 1. No bigotry. This is a Star Trek community. Remember that diversity and coexistence are Star Trek values. Any post/comments that are racist, anti-LGBT, or generally "othering" of a group will result in removal/ban.

~ 2. Keep it civil. Disagreements will happen both on lore and preferences. That's okay! Just don't let it make you forget that the person you are talking to is also a person.

~ 3. Use spoiler tags. Use spoiler tags in comments, and NSFW checkbox for posts.
This applies to any episodes that have dropped within 3 months prior of your posting. After that it's free game.

~ 4. Keep it Trek related. This one is kind of a gimme but keep as on topic as possible.

~ 5. Keep posts to a limit. We all love Star Trek stuff but 3-4 posts in an hour is plenty enough.

~ 6. Try to not repost. Mistakes happen, we get it! But try to not repost anything from within the past 1-2 months.

Hum... Isn't tomorrow one of the 2 days that are internationally recognized as not a working day? (The other being Jan 1st)

[–] chiliedogg@lemmy.world 2 points 3 hours ago

Not in the US. I've never had May 1 off unless it was a weekend when I wasn't having to work.

[–] rockSlayer@lemmy.blahaj.zone 33 points 1 day ago (3 children)

It's often recognized as International Worker's Day, but I don't know of many places where it's a public holiday. Here in the US, Labor Day is celebrated on Sept. 1, explicitly to separate the labor movement from it's radical origins

[–] dermanus@lemmy.ca 3 points 17 hours ago

Most of my team in India is off tomorrow. It's not nation-wide but many states have public holidays.

[–] snooggums@piefed.world 15 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Being the US, the vast majority of laborers don't get it off!

"Alright team, we need all hands on deck for Labor Day to accommodate all the extra shoppers who have off from their jobs. And remember, we're all family here!"

Since I was wrong about actual days off, do you know if the majority of US laborers who are off on Labor day get holiday pay?

If it was in the doc you linked I didn't see it.

Edit: I see it and can't wrap my head around 80%+ of laborers getting holiday pay. Does this cover gig workers, waitstsff and other fully tipped positions, etc.?

Most of Europe it is.

In the UK it's "nearest Monday to 1 May", following if 1 May was a Tuesday, on 1 May if that's a Monday

And labelled "Early May Bank Holiday"

[–] snooggums@piefed.world 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Also not in the US. We have Labor Day in September and most laborers don't get it off.

We always get the first Monday in May off in the UK. Four day weekend for me...

[–] ALiteralCabbage@feddit.uk 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

May Day isn't a global observance though. The first Monday of May is a hangover from religious observance; having spent a large part of my working life in retail environments bank holidays were always a bit of a mixed blessing - I feel like if it was May Day as a workers' holiday then the workers should get a day off!

[–] rants_unnecessarily@piefed.social 1 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

Workers do get the day off in most of Western Europe.

[–] ALiteralCabbage@feddit.uk 2 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

I'm talking about the UK - retail workers don't count when it comes to back holidays here, on the whole.

Of course there's always people working on bank holidays here as well. They just get payed double and there's a lot less of them needed.

[–] MalReynolds@slrpnk.net 2 points 1 day ago

It's a public holiday in Australia, but on the 4th (we make sure it makes a long weekend).

Jan 1st is a workers day???

But yes tomorrow is labor day. A day of protests and riots by the workers for the workers!! SING LOUD AND PROUD THE INTERNATIONAL!

[–] marcos@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Jan 1st is a workers day???

No, and I haven't said that. Jan 1st celebrates peace.

[–] zout@fedia.io 3 points 1 day ago
