Extend it to 1984. People forget that in the long ago, everything traveled slower. People in rural areas were a few years behind when it came to trends, cable rollout, item availability, etc
Trends also took longer to go around the globe, even for English speaking countries.
How did people survive without the internet?* It's baffling.

That’s a good point. Maybe we can extend the time window all the way to 1990 or so.
That's fair, and honestly might be more likely since the band we are looking for is essentially old enough to have seen Beavis on TV and be young enough to have thought the pokemon cartoon was cool.
