General community for news/discussion in the UK.

Less serious posts should go in !casualuk@feddit.uk or !andfinally@feddit.uk
More serious politics should go in !uk_politics@feddit.uk.

Try not to spam the same link to multiple feddit.uk communities.
Pick the most appropriate, and put it there.

Posts should be related to UK-centric news, and should be either a link to a reputable source, or a text post on this community.

Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.

If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread.

Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.

Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.

They couldn’t just get a new headline act?

[–] ramble81@lemmy.zip 28 points 4 days ago (1 children)

The sheer fact he was the “headline” to began with was sad.

still a huge audience out there for him, the uk has prevented all types of people from entering the country in the past including jews including members of the israeli government https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c8xgk1ek19lo

Members of the isreali government makes sense. I don’t think that’s the gotcha you may be thinking.

Yup. I’d say they fall under “hate promoters”, I mean they’re trying to genocide an entire population. Leave the Palestinians alone and let them have their land. Not to mention now they’re attacking Syria.

It's likely that most acts decent enough to headline are already fully booked for the summer.

[–] addie@feddit.uk 3 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Standard operating practice would just be to move everyone else up a slot, and book some 'up and coming' band to fill the very early slot that's left vacant. Glastonbury managed to shuffle people between days when they lost their headliners a few years ago, depends who's free and who's got other bookings.

Looks like they had West headlining all three days, and I can't find anything about who else was due to play - Drake, maybe? The 2026 festival looks like a scam, how little detail there is about it.

Glastonbury is about as non-standard as it gets.

[–] towerful@programming.dev 7 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Well the point is that he should never have been the headline to start with.
And now all the sponsors have pulled out, because they don't want to be associated with a festival that is promoting a person like Kanye.

Nah they were just afraid of the riots.

I imagine there's a clause in the contract that he gets paid in full if they cancel him, but only a small %age if they cancel the whole thing.
