Maybe not but I live two miles from the nearest village so I have no choice. The idea of getting rid of cars doesn't work for people that are in my situation, it's not practical.

Cars are difinitely thing of convenience. But as long as public transport exists, it is not a necessity. On another note - 2 miles is a walking distance, or at leats it should be for a healthy individual. If you had said 20 miles probably would have gotten more compassion in community against cars.

There's probably about 4 buses in and out of the village every day. It's not practical at all. I have a new born baby and walking 2 miles to get to a bus, to get to the next biggest village and on to another bus to get to the doctor's for her vaccines is a ridiculous idea. It would take most of the day just for that one journey. Then try to do a family shop under those conditions. Cars in the UK countryside are essential, not luxuries.
