I think I said this before, but a problem is when someone says "I don't like star trek: discovery" it's impossible to know if they have reasons beyond "i don't like black women". They might not even know themselves! And if they do, they're unlikely to come out and say that. They'll reach for something more acceptable like "I wanted self contained episodes" (but DS9's arcs are cool) or whatever.
There are so many duds online they've poisoned the well of discourse.
The first episode of DISCO put me on the path towards dislike. I thought we were going to get slightly more cinematic trek, with Michelle Yeoh's Character and Michael Burnham forming some sort of leadership team for mostly contained episodes... Perhaps with show long arcs (like VOY or DS9).
I had such hopes for that during the opening half of the episode. But I was left waiting for something that never showed up.
I'd love to see POC women taking their rightful place in ST leadership (because they so often have and do in progressive politics IRL). None the less to say what "get" as the root of Star Trek clearly isn't what the writers "get" as the root of New Trek.
