And that’s basically it!
It's really not. A corporation is not a person.
A random person also does not have control over aspects of my life via lobbying and contracts I have no influence over. And if such a person existed (say billionaires) then it would absolutely be acceptable to go to their place and insult them. That's called protest.
This isn't people going and insulting innocent little Microsoft who hasn't done anything. Microsoft's behaviour is seen as unacceptable and people are speaking up.
If you showed up at Microsoft HQ and started throwing out insults, why would that be acceptable? I'm not a fan of Microsoft but this seems to be a case of people being keyboard activists who would only act that way when they think they are anonymous. It reminds me, somewhat, of the guys in college who would harass girls online but act totally different in person.
One can protest without being insulting. I wouldn't walk into a room at Microsoft HQ and start throwing insults. However, this is Lemmy. There's a mentality here that justifies certain behavior.
