The U.S. State Department announced on March 27 that it would provide short-term funding to an initiative documenting Ukrainian children abducted by Russia after White House terminated the program, Reuters reported.

At least 19,500 Ukrainian children have been confirmed as abducted by Russia since the start of its full-scale invasion, with only about 1,200 returned, according to Ukraine's Children of War database.

A State Department spokesperson said the short-term funding would allow program implementers to ensure that essential data on abducted children is properly transferred to the relevant authorities.

France will provide €2 billion of extra military aid to Ukraine, President Emmanuel Macron said on Wednesday ahead of a summit aimed at boosting Ukrainian security. Speaking alongside Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky in Paris, Macron said Russia must accept a 30-day ceasefire offered by Ukraine “without preconditions”, accusing Moscow of still showing a “desire for war”.

The state news agency RIA Novosti presented the finishing off of a fellow serviceman by Russian fighters as the finishing off of a Ukrainian Armed Forces soldier. The video was published in 2024, as ASTRA wrote about it at the time

The Russian state news agency RIA Novosti published a note:

"A Ukrainian Armed Forces fighter in the DPR finished off a fellow soldier who stepped on a mine with a shot to the head. In the footage obtained by RIA Novosti, a group of Ukrainian soldiers is moving across an open area, one of them steps on a mine. His fellow soldier, without attempting to provide medical assistance, shoots the wounded man, and then continues moving."

Attached to the text is video evidence taken from a drone - in 2024, the state channel "Russia 24" already published this video with the same accusation of involvement of Ukrainian Armed Forces soldiers in the shooting of their own fighter.

However, in reality, it is not a Ukrainian soldier who shoots his wounded comrade, but a Russian soldier, as ASTRA wrote last year. The footage was filmed by a drone by Ukrainian servicemen of the 118th Brigade, namely a soldier with the call sign "Shustry" near the village of Rabotino in the Zaporizhia region. The Russian Ministry of Defense reported the capture of Rabotino on May 15, 2024.

A Russian military court on Wednesday handed down long prison sentences to 12 members of Ukraine's Azov regiment, which led the defence of the city of Mariupol in the early months of the war and is designated as a "terrorist organization" by Russia.

The defendants, charged with "terrorist activity" and with "violently seizing or retaining power," were sentenced to between 13 and 23 years in prison, Russian state media reported.

There was no immediate Ukrainian comment on the verdicts. Ukraine's human rights envoy, Dmytro Lubinets, denounced the proceedings when they began in June 2023 as "another sham trial" held for Russia's "own amusement."

Ukrainian forces will fight even with "their bare hands" if they do not receive conditions acceptable for lasting peace, CIA Director John Ratcliffe said during a U.S. Senate hearing on March 25.

"I want to say that with regard to the Ukrainian resistance, the Ukrainian people and the Ukrainian military have been underestimated for a period of several years now," Ratcliffe said.
