Now, here's a pleasant surprise. Godzilla: Monster of Monsters! for NES is... good? Shockingly so! Somehow developer Compile took on the improbable task of bringing gigantic monsters to the NES hardware and not only made a compelling (if admittedly repetitive) game out of it, they managed to convey the scale and mass of its eponymous antihero. It helps that the sluggish slugfest action that Godzilla lends himself to is leavened with nimble sequences centering on Mothra, whose movements and skills are wholly different than Godzilla's. The resulting work plays out as a sort of primitive strategy game on a series of hex grids across the solar system in a loving (and visually impressive) tribute to Showa-era films like Destroy All Monsters!—and just in time for the theatrical debut of Godzilla Vs. Biollante. An unexpected highlight of the ’89 library... and a fine bit of counter-programming for the "big sprites punch stuff" games that helped sell the new 16-bit machines.

What makes Shin Godzilla more than a great Godzilla movie is how it doesn’t simply return to the iconography and tone of Ishirō Honda’s 1954 original, but it expands and embellishes upon it.

I want to make a collection on NeoDB (fediverse media log, like Letterboxd, Goodreads etc) of all Godzilla films. (Will be here when complete.)

But some of the lists online talk about "only official" films without further clarification.

Are there "unofficial" Godzilla films, and is there a fully comprehensive all-in-one list of all Godzilla films, regardless of official/unofficial, Toho/Sony/TriStar/Legendary etc?

Legendary’s Monsterverse is further expanding with an Apple TV series starring Wyatt Russell, who will reprise his “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” role as Colonel Lee Shaw.

“Obi-Wan Kenobi” showrunner and “Monarch” executive producer Joby Harold will serve as showrunner on the as-yet-untitled spinoff.

The series will follow Colonel Lee Shaw, an American operative who in 1984 went on a secret mission behind enemy lines in an attempt to stop the Soviets from unleashing a horrific new Titan big enough to destroy the U.S. and turn the tide of the Cold War.

Producers include Kei Banno, Brian Rogers, and Kenji Okuhira. Russell and Harold will executive produce alongside Tory Tunnell, Chris Black, Kyle Bradstreet, Alex Boden, Max Borenstein, Andy Goddard, Hiro Matsuokam, and Takemasa Arita.

Harold has also signed an overall deal with Legendary to oversee the Monsterverse franchise for Apple TV, featuring both new and fan-favorite Titans.

“I could not feel more privileged to be a part of building out this wildly iconic universe,” said Harold. “Apple and Legendary have been exemplary partners throughout this process, and we will continue to bring these Titans of cinematic history to audiences with the reverence they deserve.”

“Viewers around the world haven’t been able to get enough of ‘Monarch: Legacy of Monsters’ since its global debut, and we cannot wait to unleash the electrifying new stories that Joby and the entire cast and creative team have been working on,” added Morgan Wandell, head of international development for Apple TV.

Russell will return in the “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” Season 2, premiering February 27, 2026 on Apple TV+.

Horror series created by Toolzilla. It presents a unique take on the Godzilla mythos through a horror lens. The series incorporates biblical or spiritual themes. The kaiju depicted are far more bizarre, grotesque and alien in nature. Indeed, they could actually belong to a Cosmic Horror Story. In addition to the mutations from those unlucky enough to come into contact with Godzilla's cells, Godzilla himself is far more grotesque in appearance, with his body barely holding itself together in a constant state of decay and regeneration from the sheer amount of radiation it emits.
