An altersex person is any person, who either has or desires sexual traits that do not fit the male/female sex binary. This differs from intersex, in that altersex people are not necessarily born with such traits, and may wish to achieve them via surgery, hormones, etc.

Some examples of altersex people (non-exhaustive):

• Transmasculine/transfeminine people who wish to keep their natal genitals
• People who seek or have gone through genital nullification
• People who desire both a penis and a vagina (a type of salmacian)
• People who wish to shift their genital configurations at will
• People who desire (as-yet) fantastical genital arrangements, such as tentacles or mechanical parts
