I mean, they're doing that too. I got one on the fifth.

Ottawa’s gas tax pause is offering a bigger break at the pumps to the households that earn the most largely because they buy more fuel, the parliamentary budget officer says in a new report.

I think we should wait and see if France or Ireland head down this path as well. It's not like Canada's the first.

It should not be given airtime at all. If you give it airtime, then you are taking it seriously.

So your opinion is that the "research" put forward in favour of separation should be taken seriously? Because that's what engaging with it is doing.

Does the Quebec versus Canada framing also have no basis in truth? Was Canada wrong for allowing Quebec to have the autonomy it currently has? Because that's what Harper's spent years arguing for, including with his Alberta firewall letter addressed to Alberta's at the time not separatist Premier. I mean, I personally don't think Quebec should be allowed to have and run its own pension plan, but it does. If that's something Alberta's demanding, can we really be surprised?

And the current separatist sentiment starts in the Premier's office. Every change to the citizen initiative law that enabled this referendum, from requirements that it be vetted for constitutionality to the lowering of minimum signatures required, was performed by Smith's government.

They sound unique enough that I'll at least give them a look. And the fact that both leads in Collin from Accounts are a real-life couple makes it interesting on its own.

How does "Alberta should have more autonomy" translate to "Alberta should leave Canada"? That's the dot your line's missing.

I keep meaning to watch Letterkenny, but always end up getting distracted by something else. Perhaps I'll give that a look.

I may or may not also be from small town Ontario, which may or may not be how I heard of Letterkenny.

There's no gymnastics required because every time Ottawa oversteps (their words, not mine), they get pissed off. And they usually think Ottawa is overstepping when Ottawa starts telling Alberta what it can do or not do with its resources. It happened in the 80's (NEP), it happened in the 90's (Kyoto Accord), and it happened in 2016 (no business case). The difference is in the80's and 90's the Alberta government itself wasn't advocating for separation. Smith, today, is doing exactly that, and all of the changes made to the original 2021 law that enabled this referendum were made by Smith's government.

I'll look them up. Wanna give me the Cliff's notes?

Thousands of people were among the first to cast their ballots in this year’s municipal election during the first two of four Special Advance Voting Days offered by the City of Ottawa.

No gymnastics required. There's been a separatist thread running through Alberta since it joined confederation. Literally they were complaining about Canada controlling what Alberta could do with Alberta's resources in 1905. They've just never had actual government support. Quebec is exactly the opposite - most of the last 50 years was a PQ government, including the 1995 referendum, and it went about as you'd expect it to.

Ottawa firefighters contained a fire at a public school in the Meadowlands area on Saturday.

According to a news release from Ottawa Fire Services, crews were alerted that smoke alarms had been activated at St. Gregory Catholic School on Meadowlands Drive West shortly after noon.

Former Conservative prime minister Stephen Harper cautioned against the prospect of Alberta separation in a column Friday, writing that even voting just to "send a message" would represent a fraught approach.

The pre-trial running for the O-Train East Extension into Orléans is being delayed until November after an issue was detected with the train’s safety-critical software.

Environment Canada says Ottawa received 56 mm of rain in September, well below the normal rainfall of 90 mm in the month.

Ottawa has seen below normal precipitation in September over the last four years. In 2025, a total of 31.5 mm of rain was recorded at the Ottawa Airport, with 44.3 mm of rain in September 2024, 24.7 mm in September 2023 and 65.3 mm of rain in September 2022.

It is absolutely depressing that the only one who wants to tell us how much taxes will go up is also the only one who doesn't want to put them up enough (that we know of, because the others aren't telling). 2.5% wasn't enough 4 years ago, Mark. That's why they're above 3% now.

Now if buying Canadian meant having better options. Crave is the only Canadian streaming platform I know of and on top of giving money to Bell, it's... not great.

Ottawa mayoral candidate Jeff Leiper has promised to triple funding for night ambassadors and safety outreach, fill empty commercial spaces and create a dedicated area for festivals to improve the ByWard Market if elected later this month.

But he still won't tell us how he plans to pay for this stuff. Like... I would love to vote for this guy. But work with me here.

Or he could, now hear me out for a second, aim taxes higher than 2.5%.
