@ravachol @varnia true but i try to avoid things like that if i have nothing to contribute. so far they both will install and run just fine. basically my only issue would be that i dont want those projects to die. metathesiophobia, i had to look it up but basically this is what it is. the things i love being phased out. but you know the whole attachment is suffering stuff i know its irrational. a tree has to die so another one can sprout or something like that lol

@p4rzivalrp2 you can still install them but openbox hasnt had an update since 2015. the repo isnt archived but main hasnt been touched in 12 years. fluxbox hasnt had an update in just as long strangely but there is recent activity to the the repo so maybe its still alive. also maybe they are so simple and stable that they haven’t required any updates but what will happen in the future? how long until theyre not even possible to install?

@p4rzivalrp2 @forestbeasts its getting harder and harder to do what linux was always good at doing when i first started using it: reviving old hardware. yeah maybe you can still run a cli install of linux pn whatever but its like the days of fluxbox, openbox etc are gone. how long has it been since openbox was actively maintained? i stopped checking years ago.

@sip @panda_abyss and if i remember correctly from the last time i made a bad attempt at that lol its optional sometimes to support a driver as modular but supprt for that driver module still needs to be set during compile? if im wrong just tell me to shut up its been probably 15 or 20 years since i tried to compile my own kernel

@Jesus_666 @kamstrup its my understanding that this actually hasn’t been patched in most distributions. The ubuntu statement says they released mitigations and disabled the kernel module affected but that patches will be released. according to a post on linkedin made yesterday and a video attached to it demonstrating the exploit on a current kali release it hasnt been fixed
