In Portugal, we usually just say "Cavalos" (horses)

Pferd is horse, right? What is "stärken"?

Never heard of anyone using it. Is it mostly used by technicians?

I feel that you're are very jaded over this subject, I truly felt it was a funny situation. No judgement from me

Yes, AWS has a lot of advantages and I do believe they usually provide a reliable service, but as with all centralised services when they go down a bunch of other stuff go with them and that should be avoided. Doesn't make all the incredible engineers currently working in AWS stupid

It's pretty funny to argue in favour of centralised services in a decentralised platform

Although I have no formal education in the field and my profession has nothing to do with Cooperatives (aka democratic enterprises), I've been heavily invested in reading literature and participating in any local event I can find about the subject, so I probably know more than the average

Since I'm on this topic, if anyone speaks Portuguese and wants to learn more about it feel free to join us at !cooperativas@lemmy.pt. If you don't speak Portuguese, you have other communities

Oi!

If the whole left had united in Lisbon it might have been a different story, still very close though

Not really, local elections tend to have different results than the legislative elections, in Portugal.

For example, while PCP (communist party) has very small representation in our national parliament (2/170) it's still the third largest party in number of mayor's, way ahead of the far right.

The same applies to CDS (conservatives), that left the parliament a couple years ago (and came back last year) and were still able to elect 6 mayor's.

They usually sacrifice the taste, I'd rather eat simple looking biscuits

But they look cute

I would like to point out to everyone underestimating Portugal's influence in world politics that, while I agree it hasn't been a military or economic major power in centuries, it has great diplomatic outreach:

  • Part of the EU and has been used as an example of how to handle drug abuse
  • Part of CPLP which seeks to align the interests of all Portuguese speaking countries (in Europe, South America, West and East Africa and Oceania)
  • Vast naval territory in the Atlantic and the Azores which have hosted a US military base for decades
  • Good relations with China especially after the return of Macau
  • The current secretary general of the UN is an old portuguese Prime Minister

So while no longer a major country, it still has sway on how relations between some countries develop

That's absolutely not the case. All our news channels talk about is crimes, healthcare crisis, chega and trump. Most people dislike trump and his policies
