Ah, yeah, in the US they just hide that you're paying for it by the credits I mentioned. Sneakier I guess, but it is what it is and they all do it.

If it's tedious, this, if it's interesting, now I've wasted the whole day and have ro work overtime to get to the tedious stuff.

A real step for exploited women, not the tons of proposed laws keeping transwomen from being able to go out in public, work jobs, or serve in Congress because they don't have bathrooms like was done to all women not that many years ago. Transwomen just want to live, rapists should be the target of exploitation laws not peeing.

I don't really get it and details are scarce in the article. Is the model different in than in the US? It says "you're no longer paying for the handset, but pay the same price". Do they bundle the cost of handsets with the monthly fee and just allow you to upgrade every some number of months? But if you forget to upgrade, or don't want to, you still pay the same?

In the US generally they charge for the handsets split up into like 48 payments and then have some promotions for popular phones where you get 48 monthly credits to cover some or all of the cost. If you cancel service, the balance usually comes due or if you change to a lower cost plan sometimes they let you keep the payment plan, but you lose the credits. It's done different ways, but this is an example. But the cost of the plan is always billed as totally separate line items

You can get this: 100 pairs for like $25

You really should throw them away. They are porous so cleaning is not going to work well. They are meant to be disposable.

Or get longer-term ones if you want better quality sound for music. I have a pair from EarPiece that I use. They have much better sound distribution, adjustable components to change the protection level, and they can be cleaned with alcohol. Plus they come with a nice case and an extra plug in a separate compartment in case you lose one while at an event.

It's usually the opposite that's the issue for me. If it's not free, OK, let's pay, but if it's not a reasonable price for the product (including both the content, usability, and reusability, in case of media), then I'll go out of my way to get it free or totally give up on it depending on how much I want it. That's why I switched from piracy to Netflix for many years and now am back to piracy because I like shows in the background while working on projects, for example, or piracy, then Steam, then, fuck gaming as much because I found other hobbies.

For me it's more about perception. I don't want to be clocked as trans and attacked or kicked out of bathrooms or turned away from gynecologists by shitty scheduling staff (having that issue right now) because of my voice.

Yeah, the closest place to put them...isn't that what a closet is? Oh wait, closets are....

This is actually part of it though it's more nuanced with smaller form devices, than say a desktop computer, that run on very little power and have parts from lots of different manufacturers rather than integrated motherboards.

Firmware sometimes needs a hard reset to get past bugs, and sometimes a capacitor or two have enough power to keep a low power memory chip active for days, weeks, months, or longer.

Problem at a high level is with devices that are not well integrated because a lot of products these days are a mishmash of pre-made rather than purpose-made components from various companies, and some have some kind of firmware running in local memory and they try to cache information rather than reloading each time to speed up startup times.

Could be a motor driver chip for focusing the lens from some fly-by-night manufacturer with buggy firmware throws an error that the main device interprets as a potential for a catastrophic failure and refuses to start up to prevent what it thinks might cause damage or user injury. But maybe really its just a bug.

That chip stays charged and continues to throw the error when the main board does startup checks and every time the battery is put back in, it replenishes the charge in the driver chip. Finally once it loses charge and has to load from scratch and actually runs the checks again it doesn't remember that it previously threw an error and the current checks don't trigger the error anymore, so it's "fixed". Could be that there is a part close to catastrophic failure or could have been a bug that triggered it, but for now it's fine. Just a wild top of my head example, but the basic idea is there. Also, could be something physically is lose and it got knocked into a place where it's making enough contact this time, but might get lose again shortly after.

Always hard to say without a trained technician or a good product with good error handling. But good error handling isn't profitable anymore. That means more development and testing time up front and less likelihood of the user having to replace the product sooner and since competition is more scarce these days, there's no incentive to make better, longer lasting products.

News has a short attention span for juicy subjects, much shorter for complex, "boring" subjects. Especially ones that continue to be refined indefinitely. That's what happened to it. Doesn't have much to do with what is still happening to it in academia and research.

Often the content is available without masking for a very short time so scrapers can access them or similar tricks to allow them access immediately after posting. But that requires that you hit the server immediately after the story is posted and there is no masking at all usually in those cases. That's how things like archive.is get a copy for example. But none of that is client/browser side anymore, at least on the major sites. Otherwise it's easy to defeat if the content is already provided to the browser and just masked with JavaScript or something that runs locally and can be blocked.

Yeah, it's very similar for me. But I'm also AuDHD, So that might be a difference. The worst and best of both. Poor sleep, from ADHD and burnout from masking both Autism and ADHD. Plus a drive to use every last drop of extra mental energy to do what hobbies I can afford the spoon deficit for or the anxiety from ADHD will kick in hard, especially when I don't have the spoons to suppress it. It's a vicious cycle of conflicts, but has lots of advantages if I could just find a way to profit off of them. Neurotypical jobs just take advantage of me and kick me to the curb when I break.

I recently had vaginoplasty, and I'm looking for a pad of some kind that is not too stiff and not absorbent for putting under me during dilation. Something that I can wipe with water, or optionally alcohol if it's safe for the plastic, but won't absorb anything or stain from the blood.

I usually use "chucks" (of a cheaper brand) with a paper towel and then the pad that I was wearing before. But often just a bit of the slop from discharge, lubrication, and blood will make its way to the chucks and stain them. I'm just picky and don't like to use them after they have a few spots. But if I had a small mat of silicone or other plastic I could wipe down that was thin enough to be relatively comfortable, not slide too much, and not tear easily that would make the chucks almost never get dirty and not require throwing out so many of them. For a bit I was using some bags that my ice packs came in just cut in half and removed the zipper lock portion. But I threw those out before traveling home after surgery and they weren't exactly ideal anyway.

I tried searching Amazon and various medical supply places, but they are all disposable or "washable" and thus stainable since they're meant to be absorbent. But I have the other layers for that. And I found like sex blankets, but those were all like the size of the bed. I just need something like 2-3 square feet at most. Doesn't even need to be as large as the chucks, just fit under my butt and around it enough to catch overflow.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Edit:

So far my best solution has been to use the chucks with a silicone layer and then I fold the pad I was wearing if it didn't have too much surface blood and discharge. The silicone layer is the key since I can just rinse it. I'm a little obsessive about not laying on stained stuff and definitely not wet stuff. Autism related likely...

But also I'm already creating a lot of medical waste trash and I really want to reduce that as much as possible so the puppy pads wouldn't help there, but I also don't have the ability to do laundry myself, so I don't want to burden my friends who are helping me out with that kind of stuff, so towels/rags are not good there. Having issues with nerve pain, and stairs are still difficult for me for laundry. So something i can quickly wash in the bathroom sink with mild hand soap is ideal.

Problem is finding the right layer of plastic/silicone. I tried a piece of a 12 inch baking mat roll that I cut to 18 inches. It is really flexible which is nice, but it sticks to my skin, so positioning and then getting up is a pain. I then tried a craft mat. It's a little stiffer, so it sticks up in front of my vulva and makes it harder to see what's going on with the mirror as I'm dilating, but it sticks less to my skin and is a little easier to clean since it's a little smoother. Ive also tried putting down a paper towel to sit on, but again, produces waste, so OK, but not perfect.

Still looking for a perfect, smooth and flexible plastic/silicone layer. But so far this combo has allowed me to keep the expensive chucks mostly clean. I also use separate chucks for sleeping on and with the reduction in bleeding, my pads mostly handle that anyway, so those I keep for a while.

Thanks for all of the suggestions!
