Hey everyone! Just a quick little surprise for everyone: we're going to be making a Tenacity 1.3.5 release. This will be just a refresh of 1.3.4 except with a few new things from 1.4 alpha 1:

  • Windows on ARM build
  • Partial Windows dark mode support

Since we backported 1.4 alpha 1's CI configuration to 1.3.5, maybe we'll also see official macOS builds for the first time in years. Who knows? Regardless, it's all to hold everyone over while we work on 1.4.

When 1.3.5 is out, you can also be assured I will post an update to the usual channels, including here. In those announcements I will explain why 1.3.5 was released.

EDIT: I'm also planning to backport a spectrogram crash fix for this release. It further justifies such a release in the first place, so why not! :D

Hey everyone! 9 months after we started our rebase adventure, we're finally complete. The result is Tenacity 1.4 alpha 1, which contains several new features, improvements, and plenty of other new goodies!

The first highlight of this release is the fact that Tenacity is now based on Audacity 3.7.5. This means that Tenacity now has realtime effects, beats and bars support, new toolbars and a new toolbar layout, basically anything that was introduced in Audacity since about 3.0.4 or such. Yes, all networking features have been removed, including the new cloud integrations that were introduced in newer versions of Audacity.

The second highlight of this release is also how we restored our CI. For end users, this doesn't mean much except one thing: nightly builds are back! You can visit https://tenacityaudio.org/nightly to download them (this is a new convenience redirect link). This should help ease testing pre-release versions of Tenacity as users no longer need to compile the latest development version of Tenacity from source.

In addition to there being nightly builds, our CI restoration also means one thing: we now have a new Windows on ARM build! Unlike our other Windows builds, this build requires Windows 11 or later. In addition, in this release, we will not be shipping FFmpeg builds for Windows on ARM. Instead, that will be done in the next release, 1.5.

Despite us restoring CI, you may notice that there are no longer any macOS nightly builds unlike in times past. Unfortunately, macOS builds are currently failing due to a theme system related issue, and we will not be fixing it as we are pending a theme system rewrite anyways. By 1.4 alpha 2, we will have some form of macOS builds restored, though we can't guarantee that they will work.

Finally, we are aware of a few issues with 1.4 alpha 1, the most notable being that our themes are missing. Regarding the themes, this is intentional because, as mentioned earlier, we are waiting on a theme system rewrite to be complete. Once that's complete, we will port over our themes to the new theme system and then they'll be restored.

As usual, we do appreciate any and all feedback! We hope you enjoy this nice little preview of what's to come, but be warned that this is only the start of what's to come! :)

P.S. Apologies for the delay on making this post. For some reason, programming.dev was having some 504 gateway timeout errors. Only now was I finally able to make this post.

Are you interested in giving us feedback? Here's a great opportunity to give it! This post contains user surveys that we'll occasionally post. This post is occasionally updated, so check back here occasionally for any new surveys we may post!
