In a remote village temple in India, a gang of thieves pulled off a daring heist of some of the nation's most precious cultural heritage. Two citizen detectives joined forces to bring down the mastermind behind one of the biggest art thefts in history.

For over 30 years, Dr. Róbert Gáfrik, a scholar at the Institute of World Literature of the Slovak Academy of Sciences in Bratislava, has been quietly working to bring one of India’s most profound philosophical traditions closer to Slovak readers.

In an email interview with Firstpost, Dr. Gáfrik spoke about his decades-long engagement with the Upanishads, the challenges of translating Sanskrit, and what drew him to ancient Indian thought in the first place.

The result of his efforts — the first-ever translation of the Upanishads into the Slovak language — has caught the attention of PM Modi.

“I have been interested in these texts since the first time I came across them more than 30 years ago,” Dr. Gáfrik told Firstpost. “My initial motivation was to engage with them through translation to deepen my own understanding.”

On the 15th of June, India successfully test-fired its Long-Range Land Attack Cruise Missile off the coast of Odisha. The made-in-India missile is a major defence boost to the country. They say the campaign included viral posts on social media, manipulated imagery showing supposed Rafale debris, AI-generated content and video-game depictions to simulate supposed combat. More than 1,000 social media accounts newly created as the India-Pakistan clashes erupted also spread a narrative of Chinese technological superiority, according to French researchers who specialise in online disinformation.

Thanks to the massive adoption of unified payments interface (UPI) based digital transactions, India now makes faster payments than any other country in the world, an International Monetary Fund (IMF) note has emphasised.
