I just checked: A 128gb ide ssd (industrial!) costs €170, I wouldn't invest that either into a throwaway system. And its the biggest you can get.

Ext4, xfs, you can format a file with a file system and mount it like a disk.

I still don't get the problem. Are you complaining you have to chroot into your system and finish the update because your power got interrupted? Is a 5 min detour into a live system making you unconfortable? This is how you would fix it in any distro except the image based ones and the arch wiki will guide you excellently how to do it. Meine Dienstpflicht war ne Ausbildung zum putzen. Munition war zu teuer zum verschießen, wir hatten ne Ration von 30 Patronen für den einen Tag aufm Schießplatz in den 9 Monaten und durften danach 6 Stunden die Waffen putzen. Und dann unsere Schuhe, Kleidung und am nächsten morgen wieder die Zimmer... Immerhin gabs 10 Euro pro Tag und freie Verpflegung... ich hoffe die heutige Jugend bekommt mehr Budget als wir. Dass die Taz abgeht bei grünen Männchen auch wenn sie sich nur verstecken bis die Amis zur Hilfe kommen...
