Once limited to policing the nation’s boundaries, the Border Patrol has built a surveillance system stretching into the country’s interior that can monitor ordinary Americans’ daily actions and connections for anomalies instead of simply targeting wanted suspects. Started about a decade ago to fight illegal border-related activities and the trafficking of both drugs and people, it has expanded over the past five years.

It's time to revisit the battery damaged Apple Lisa from a couple weeks ago. I had a chance to test a couple of my boards in a working Lisa so I could rule out potential issues with these two boards.

Two Palestinian boys lie next to each other at al-Wafa medical rehabilitation hospital in Gaza.

Their mother, Aya Abu Auda, speaks to them softly, but neither child reacts.

The brothers, Elias Abu al-Jibeen, 5, and Ismail Abu al-Jibeen, 8, were wounded during Israeli bombardment on their displacement camp in Gaza City’s Tel al-Hawa neighbourhood on 31 August.

The attack left Elias completely deaf and Ismail with severe hearing loss.

Just a year earlier, Abu Auda had fled her home in northern Gaza after Israeli missiles flattened it and killed her husband.

Germany has, for the first time, withheld its support for extending the mandate of the UN Palestinian refugee agency, UNRWA.

At a preliminary vote in a UN General Assembly subcommittee in New York, the German representative abstained on Wednesday.

Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul said in Berlin that the government expects "consistent and verifiable reforms within UNRWA" before backing another mandate renewal.

The resolution passed with 144 votes in favour, 11 against and 16 abstentions. A final vote in the full General Assembly, which is set to extend UNRWA’s current mandate from mid-2026 to mid-2029, is scheduled for December.
