Ford had to hire back former engineers to fix mistakes made by its automated systems
It turns out that those automated systems were not as robust as previously assumed, requiring Ford to hire experienced technicians — sometimes bringing back former employees — to correct errors made by the company’s robots.
That necessitated bringing back some of those employees to retrain those systems, or in some cases, mentor younger engineers who were currently struggling to maintain Ford’s vehicle quality.
In addition to guiding younger engineers, they’ve also been tasked with improving the data collection and AI training that underpin Ford’s automated systems.
To fix this, Ford created a dedicated 40-person software quality assurance team with the sole responsibility of preventing problems before they occur.
Because the testing framework is highly automated, software changes can be rapidly revalidated even late in development, ensuring that modifications do not introduce new defects. 🖊️️🤖

London heat adaptation event cancelled as heatwave grips
An event due to be held in central London about how the world can adapt to extreme heat has been cancelled due to soaring temperatures.
Wednesday's meeting - titled Extreme Heat: Improving governance and strengthening action around the world - was to have been held at the London School of Economics' Shaw Library as part of London Climate Action Week.
Organisers said the university's building did not have any cooling mechanisms in place "like most buildings in London".
A Met Office red warning for extreme heat in London and other parts of England is in place until 23:59 BST on Thursday, with temperatures forecast to hit up to 37C. 🖊️️🤖

Tallahassee police officers arrested Chuck E. Cheese on charges of credit card fraud on Wednesday.
Authorities believe Jermell Jones, who was dressed as the rodent when they arrived, stole a customer’s credit card and used it to make fraudulent purchases.
In the photos, police can be seen leading the iconic pizza rat through the front door of the establishment.
“Ok, Tallahassee Police Department, y’all couldn’t let this man change out of his Chuck E. Cheese costume before arresting him in front of those kids?” wrote one Facebook user while sharing photos of the incident.
