The last Flash Sale I managed to catch was two years ago, so I'm picking up a lot in this one:

  • Bicycle Thieves (1948)
  • All That Heaven Allows (1955)
  • Summertime (1955)
  • The Burmese Harp (1956)
  • Chungking Express (1994)
  • No Country for Old Men (2007)
  • WALL-E (2008)
  • Flow (2024)

Most excited about Burmese Harp, as I genuinely thought it would never get upgraded from DVD as it's somewhat obscure (but sooo good). Also looking forward to Flow, which is a blind buy, but so many people have recommended it to me.

The Criterion Collection's semi-annual Flash Sale (50% off everything in stock) is live as of Oct 22nd and will run until noon EST on Oct 23rd (17 hrs left as of this posting).

I won't hold my breath but I will be keeping an eye on this. I had been eligible for a HPI visa and fully intended to apply, but life got in the way while I was saving up and the clock ran out.

I'm a licensed architect in the states and the only thing keeping me from becoming a chartered architect via reciprocity is it requires a visa. It's tough convincing a company to sponsor me via the skilled worker route because I'm not already chartered. Kind of a chicken-and-egg scenario. So this visa route would genuinely help people like me.

Kangaroo Jack (2003) for me. It's not objectively good but I found it silly and fun, and it's one of my dad's favorite movies. Never really understood why it's so panned (9% critic and 29% audience on Rotten Tomatoes)

Ah, I missed it again! And just by a few hours. Is there some kind of mailing list or something to sign up for to find out when this happens? Since I gave up Reddit and YouTube I am way out of the loop on these things. Would have picked up several titles too, since it's been a couple years...

I was also puzzled by this release, but came to the conclusion that it probably makes a lot of sense for libraries and schools. For consumers? Not so much. On top of the reasons mentioned in the article, I like individual releases. I feel like the custom cover art and essay booklets is a lot of what you're purchasing when you drop money on a Criterion. And they fit nicely on my shelves.

This year's 50% off B&N Summer sale runs through July 28.

I missed Criterion's flash sale earlier this year so I'll probably stock up on this one sometime next week.
