It's bad, ie rents keep rising, groceries keep rising, gas keeps going up. Average wages don't. But at the same time we have lots of people with plenty of money, moms with time to walk their kids to the parks on a Tuesday afternoon... Plenty of people are making plenty of money. It's just that if you aren't one of those it's pretty difficult.

Younger peeps are just living with roommates or shacking up to make it work. But they aren't living in vans en mass, or something.

So. You've got everyone scared of the evils of socialism because of the red scare and the cold war, and so nobody too far left is ever electable. Got it.

Why aren't people afraid of going too far right (ie the Nazi party was the probably the furthest right party ever elected). I don't see how you could be any less afraid of that outcome?

Isn't the only sane view to steer clear of either extreme? Why is it that the dirty socialism word is so much more terrifying than fascism?

I'm so lost. Anyone got some help for me?

Not really meaning for this to sound as arrogant as it's going to, but... Lemmy is almost entirely populated by nerds so far.

Nerds tend to be open to tech, maybe a little smarter overall. You know? You can tell by the grammar, the spelling. It's a different group here.

Reality is left leaning, and the stupider someone is, in general, the more likely they are to lean right politically. The rest of the right are the really rich, who tend to be up the psychological spectrum toward sociopathic, so of course they would have no time for caring for others' needs.

As a millennial, we grew up with the phrases "that's gay" and "that's retarded" (which meant the same thing) and obviously we had to learn to phase those out.

While I never once meant "that's disabled" or "that's homosexual"... We obviously don't say that stuff anymore.

So in the past few months I’ve consumed three body trilogy, the bobiverse, expanse series, dogs of war (meh), quantum earth x2 (meh) and project hail Mary. I really enjoyed most of these, with dark Forest being my favourite read lately. What should be in my reading list next, as I get close to the end of the expanse books?
