Yeah, Lemmy hates repetitive content that doesn't add a lot factually, mostly just promotes and reinforces the viewpoint people already agree with. It's unheard of.
One example I gave up above was one user who spent a ton of time saying that he was helping promote left-wing change in American politics by encouraging people not to vote for Biden because he wasn't good enough, but that same person hasn't (beyond a single one-liner complaining about Democrats) spent any of his thousands of comments doing anything to promote Mamdani. Mamdani who is (so far successfully) promoting left-wing change in American politics. If you want to educate the DNC about how vital it is to let go of Israel and friendships with all the rich people, it seems like making sure Mamdani wins and promoting his candidacy would be like crash priority level 1,000 for that. Right? I would think they would be excited about this guy... I mean I am. That's why I keep posting about him. It's notable to me that, in a lot of cases, these people seem like they are not (at least in their busy posting-about-politics-on-Lemmy schedule) including him or mentioning him. It's weird, right? To me that's weird.
I have a feeling like your picture of this person getting all worked up and typing increasingly unhinged is probably pretty much accurate to how that person appears.
You're fucking kidding me lmao.
I experienced the exact same thing (on a very small scale) from that dbzer0 community that was going apeshit banning anyone who gave them downvotes and talking about "anti AI trolls." It sure looked like they were batch-voting certain content, right away after it was posted from some handful of different accounts.
I never said anything about it at the time, just moved on with life, because it (a) sounds like I'm just whining about getting downvotes for my own stuff which was when I noticed it (b) would create accusations that I'm making it up (c) would create inter-instance drama (d) didn't even really continue within my awareness for any length of time I was aware of. But they definitely seemed like they were, at the very least, coordinating between a bunch of people to give out batches of votes to some content they wanted to manipulate in some way, and at worst, doing that but with sockpuppets.
It kind of makes sense. The same kind of mentality that even cares enough about this in the first place and feels entitled to cheat the system a little bit to make it kind-of-impossible to give their own content "incorrect" downvotes, would probably also feel entitled to cheat the system a little more to issue "correct" votes in sufficient numbers to make sure the voting totals for content they cared about were "correct" according to what they wanted.
"Try not to use any sockpuppet accounts on your way out" fuckin gold lmao
Hilarious man.
I've talked with them. They think it's true. The internet twats who are smart enough to know it's basically lies but just enjoy the fact that they can play around and get people frustrated by arguing with them are the absolute upper echelon of educatedness. People who play around on the wider internet and are exposed to lots of conflicting points of view is the environment for you and me, but it is not where most of the January 6th people existed, intellectually.
Milton Sanford Mayer interviewed a bunch of people in Germany after the war, and except for one professor, none of them had any idea about the camps or much idea of anything the Nazis were up to. They just remembered that they liked Hitler because the country was unified and the economy was better, but then the allies started bombing them, and it was dangerous and their cities got ruined, and they didn't like that. Mostly the mindset was "what the fuck how could they be so mean to us, we didn't do anything." I mean, what newspaper would they even read to find out anything different? We're spoiled for choice in the modern world in terms of knowing more or less what's going on, but that shit's not automatic.
Yeah. I talked here about how I think MAGA people all getting together and telling each other how they're the good guys and the liberals are bad, and just kind of agreeing with each other and feeling together, is more about camaraderie and feeling good about "fighting enemies" than it is about factual accuracy. I feel like in the online world, a lot of people on Lemmy do the same thing, where it's just kind of fun to polarize and start yelling about how some other grouping is full of bad people, and propping up additional reasons why they're bad, and yelling at them if you think you found one. It's a lot more fun than listening or engaging.
My sister had a cat who was declawed (not by her), medicated, old, sort of inbred, and had lived inside all his life. A more harmless cat you could barely imagine. He regularly found it a challenge to drink his water without fucking it up, and spent a lot of time just staring at the wall.
He once found a moth that was already damaged when he got to it, and successfully killed it. He carried the moth around in his mouth, clearly basking in the intoxicating flood of pride of the hunter he was feeling, for almost an hour before eating the whole thing.
Hopefully the idiots who run these tech companies will learn their lesson soon.
"If the thing is free, you're the product" applies just as much to dinners at the White House as it does to social media apps.
Rumsfeld more or less bragged about it too, a lot of that crowd did. We haven't had a serial killer in the White House for a few years, so it's an adjustment back (and of course Trump is such an overtly vicious person that it'll have a new flavor now), but this stuff is not new for Republicans.
(Actually Biden and Bush Sr. are the only two presidents since Carter that I can remember that weren't fans of blowing up random people directly with US forces for no reason. In Afghanistan they did an airstrike on a wedding.)
And you want to criticize the voters instead of the politicians.
My guy you are posting under an article which I posted, which is criticizing the politicians. Sounds great.
When I am king, anyone who start filling in both sides of the argument by telling the person they're arguing, what it is that that person is arguing, will be sent straight to the Internet Reeducation Camps.
It's a 100% fair question, I looked back for a while and couldn't even find the posts where this happened. Let me look more a little later and get back to you.
