AWS root beer

Googled that and only found A&W root beer. Did you mean that? Is it good?

chinotto

Didn't know that either, but actually sounds good somehow. Also added to the Want-To-Taste-It-List. :-)

Survival of the fittest.

Yes, 2/3 of the wooden cutting boards I put in became unusable after a few washes or so.

But totally worth it finding that remaining 1/3 of tough ones that are now making life sooo much easier.

The beverage may also available in the UK, but maybe under an different name.

From Wikipedia:

sarsaparilla remains available in the United Kingdom as a legacy of the temperance movement.

Thanks for the Sarsaparilla tip. As this is in some form also available in East Asia, I may have a chance finding it in an asia market, of which we have lots around here!

Thanks for the tip, but I don't think I can be picky here.
Honestly, I would be really surprised if they had root beer at all.
It is really exotic niche stuff, outside of die-hard ST-fans generally not known...

For a long time I thought it to be just a made up thing, like Saurian Brandy or so.
But I would like to at least taste it once. Must ask at our local US store if it has some...

Regardless how good it might be, it would quite certainly be a letdown for me now, as it apparently doesn't contain scotch...
And if you are talking about Werther's: I am not particularly fond of that, there are superior types of caramel imho.

Oh. I now just learned that butterscotch has nothing to do with whisky, but seems to be just the english word for "caramel" or so...
And I also know the old "Werther's" commercials.
So, they are apparently international.
Interesting. I wonder what influenced what with regard to the butterscotch reputation stated in OP...

Seems like it depends heavily an where you were at the time.
Where I live, large parts of 2020 were in ridiculously total shutdown.
Officially you weren't even allowed to go outside (we ignored that somewhat, though, despite the possible fines).
Horrifying year here.
Especially for the youth.

So, yes, your opinion would actually be absolutely unpopular here! :-)

Never heard of that before.
But neither had l of root beer, before DS9 or so.
So is it another one of those US-defaultism things still present in the 24th century?
I find them slightly annoying in Trek, but try to ignore them.

"Broken window theory".
Yes, was also thinking along that line.
That would also mean that the green bands covering the stuff up are a sensible measure.

Ok, so we can rule out some influencer shit going on that I had in mind.

Still... perhaps it is because we don't have any bamboo around were l live, as I still don't get the "why".
Is it easy to carve? Some eastern tradition? I would never even consider it, also as bamboo doesn't even look like a good place to carve something, not to speak of being the garden part of a freakin' temple.
Or is it because bamboo is generally seen more as a fast-growing throw-away item?
