I figured I'd share this here because I think the Amiga crowd might appreciate this one. :)

For the last couple of weeks I have been completely rebuilding parts of AmigaCam, and the big goal was something that might sound a little crazy in 2026:

Make it work properly on an actual Amiga again.

Not a screenshot. Not an emulator-only version. Not some "retro styled" website pretending to be old.

A real Amiga browser should be able to visit it and actually use it.

The funny thing is that I didn't want to create a completely separate "old version" of the website. The whole idea was that it should be the same AmigaCam, just adapted to whatever device you are using.

Visit with a modern desktop browser? You get the full version.

Visit with Android? You get the mobile version.

Visit with an Amiga and AWeb? You automatically get the classic-compatible version.

The content is all shared behind the scenes.

The biggest change was moving more things to simple systems like JSON files instead of relying on complicated modern stuff. This means the same data can be used by both a modern browser and a 30 year old computer.

And honestly... I really started to love that approach.

There is something beautiful about having a Commodore Amiga from the 90s reading the exact same content as a modern PC. It feels almost like a modern diskmagazine.

Artwork, articles, downloads, experiments, my anime reviews... everything is there.

Even the My Anime List section now works on Amiga browsers. The modern version has searching, sorting, images and all kinds of fancy stuff, but the Amiga version simply takes the same information and presents it in a way that an old browser understands.

The downloads area got rebuilt. The gallery got rebuilt. The blog got updated. The contact form was rebuilt to work on classic browsers too.

And then I ran into the funniest problem of all...

A 1990s browser was not defeated by some complicated JavaScript monster.

Nope.

It was defeated by a stupid little Unicode character.

A fancy dash.

A tiny little line.

A character that modern computers don't even think about.

And AWeb basically went "nope, I have no idea what this is" and wanted to download my PHP file instead. :)

This is why I actually love doing this kind of stuff. You suddenly remember that the old rules still matter. Simple HTML, clean text, lightweight pages and thinking about compatibility.

The modern web has become incredibly powerful, but sometimes we forget that the original idea was that anyone could access information with whatever machine they had.

That is what I wanted AmigaCam to be again.

A little corner of the internet that doesn't care if you arrive with a modern PC, a phone, or a trusty old Amiga sitting next to your desk.

So if you still have an Amiga, fire up AWeb and give it a try.

And if you don't have one anymore, the modern version is there too. :)
