I recently read that the age expectancy gap is just about 10 months (instead of multiple years) when accounting for lifestyle (drinking, smoking, diet...). So not being toxic and self destructive is almost the whole deal, (which I guess is also true for being trans)

Pretty sad to see that basic human rights are still up for debate.

WTF a dishwasher is much better than a washing machine. Unload it whenever you want, no sorting colors, even really baked in stuff gets dealt with.

No one did anything to deserve a growing up safely, being healthy, inheriting money, having white skin or even growing up in a certain nation. No one starts from zero, and it's just an obvious lie if you say otherwise. We as a society, should work on making these differences less relevant, when it comes to success and life satisfaction, wheather that's through public education, social benefits or reducing racism and prejudice.
I agree. Privilege definitely exist, but it's kind of a burned word. If you call someone privileged, you've made sure, that the person gets defensive and will not think about in any way.
I think it's more accurate to speak of resources. Everyone has some of them, but other people don't. Inherited money, having good relationships to your parents, having a stable upbringing, living in a good neighborhood and not being homeless, being perceived as competent, being physically or mentally healthy, are all valuable resources and everyone should try to see what resources they benefit from, where others can't. Sadly prejudice and racism/sexism/... exists, so your skin color is also a resource, making it easier to be perceived as trustworthy/competent/... which is a huge benefit.

Microsoft on the other hand actively hinders the installation of other browsers. This is a huge lawsuit just waiting there.
First, I want to say how great it is to see success in a social media platform not owned by some giant cooperation. That said, right now we are at a turning point where we can still change the platform in major ways and I think we all have a shared interested in Lemmy becoming the best it could be.
Let's face it, Reddit had many problems even before the API changes. The toxic herd mentality, over and under moderation at the same time, small posts getting drowned out by already big ones and so much more. As you probably are already aware of, social media can quickly end in filter bubbles, extremization and bringing out the worst of the human psyche. These are not problems simply fixed by better moderation. Rather, these are problems resulting from the engagement driven design of most platforms (Post controversial statement -> many comments -> Post gets delivered to more people -> even more engagement -> ...) I want Lemmy to be a place that brings people together instead of dividing us apart.
Therefore, I wanna start a conversation on what design changes Lemmy should implement in the future to make sure the platform remains humane and everyone can engage in respectful conversations.
I think a good starting point are the recourses of the Center for Humane Technology, like their course on Foundations of Humane Technology

While actions speak louder than words, gatekeeping the term ally will do us very dirty. The easiest way to turn someone away from a good cause, is focusing on the individual instead of the system and setting high standards. "How can you be against climate change and still drive that big car?" "You are against racism? How many black friends do you have?"
Being an ally is about your intention to accept and support queer people around you. A Billion of them will change the world in ways a ten thousand activists never could.
